The Watermill Theatre and Restaurant's November Newsletter

ANNOUNCING OUR NEW SEASON

We are delighted to announce the first half of
our 50th Anniversary Season.

Booking opens on 14 November.
Friends of The Watermill priority booking is open now.

A hilarious, high-energy musical whodunit, recent off-Broadway hit Murder For Two will kick off the season before a transfer to St James Theatre, London.

The British premiere of Faust x 2 will see Olivier and Tony award-winning actor Ian McDiarmid, well known for his role in the Star Wars film series, play the titular role in his adaptation of Goethe’s dramatic poem.

The Watermill’s bold, ensemble driven approach to Shakespeare is celebrated with a
new production of Twelfth Night reimagined in the 1920s jazz era. Directed by The Watermill’s Artistic Director, Paul Hart, the ensemble of actors who created Romeo + Juliet
earlier this year at The Watermill will reunite to tell Shakespeare’s timeless story. Later in the year, Twelfth Night and Romeo + Juliet will play in repertoire at the theatre, following a national and international tour.

Alan Ayckbourn’s linked comedies House and Garden will be performed simultaneously in the theatre and a marquee in The Watermill’s
beautiful gardens. One character's entrance to House is another's exit from Garden in this fast-paced duo of plays.

The Watermill Senior Youth Theatre will present Danielle Pearson’s adaptation of Ann Veronica by H. G. Wells. Newbury Dramatic Society will return with an adaptation of Terry Pratchett's Maskerade. The season concludes with a poignant new play, Nesting by Ellen Robertson. The story of a self-confessed 'collector', this funny and moving production will premiere at The Watermill and will also tour to small arts centres and village halls.

Alfred Jarry's Ubu Roi is open for a limited run. Papa Ubu wants power. Mama Ubu wants it for him. He’ll risk everything to wrestle the crown from the King in a glorious coup. It’s a pity the Ubus are so stupid, greedy and most likely insane. But when has that ever stood in the way of ambition?

The Young Company present this riotous comedy of high ambition and the lowest of humour.

'This play intends to be an explosion on the senses and conforms to my deep felt philosophy that youth theatre should harness the explosive energy of its cast.'

Seamus Allen, Director

Tickets £22 to £10.50

A quirky, comic re-telling of the classic fairy story through the eyes of the mischievous Fairy Goody. An enchanted forest, fantastical creatures and a mother-in-law who turns out to be an ogre combine to create an entertaining, musical story that will be enjoyed by children and adults alike. A magical Christmas show like no other!

'I'm very excited to be directing Rufus Norris' thrilling reimagining of Sleeping Beauty, which gives a brilliant contemporary twist to this much-loved fairytale. We have a fantastic cast and creative team for this production and we're looking forward to immersing The Watermill Theatre in a magical world.'
