Wendy & Peter Pan – rehearsal blog part two: I do believe in Fairies (by Edith and Katie)
14 March 2024
The Watermill Youth Theatre Ensemble are busy in rehearsals for our upcoming production of Wendy & Peter Pan which opens on 23 March. Over 50 of our weekly youth theatre participants, aged between 11 – 25, make up the cast of this magical production which includes puppetry, stage combat, and a sprinkling of fairy dust. We caught up with Youth Ensemble members, Edith and Katie, who shared their experience rehearsing for the role of Tink in the show:
Rehearsing the role of Tink has been a pleasure, and being able to explore the world of Netherland has been nothing but magical! Tink has taught us so much about being strong independent women, alongside giving us the ability to show our vulnerable sides. Throughout Wendy & Peter Pan, you will see the development of the female characters, Wendy, Tiger Lily, Tink and more, as they embark on journeys of self-discovery. Wendy, Tiger Lily and Tink begin as enemies, but soon realise by working together as a team, they are just as strong as the boys.
The play highlights the growth of children to adults, and delves into the idea of not wanting to grow up. This was a cool refection on life for us, as we are also growing up into young adults, and discovering who we are. Wendy’s character is a symbol of this and taught many of us in the cast not to grow up too fast.
Creating this play has brought us so much joy and we hope to bring audiences the same excitement and enthusiasm as we feel playing the characters. The part of Tink has helped us grow so much as performers and we absolutely cannot wait to perform this on The Watermill stage! Come and watch us bring the fun and witty Tink to life!”
