Laurel & Hardy – Assistant Director’s Blog
6 June 2013
Our actors, Paul and Gavin, have worked their socks off. They’ve been introduced to their trademark hats, wiggled some ties, scratched heads, begun to sing (Yoddeleaeeetee!), danced, spent time climbing up ladders and even trialled some slop wall paper paste (you’ll get to see what I mean). All with the help of our tireless director, Paul Foster, choreographic magic from Drew McOnie and some wonderful new songs by Richard Sisson who is also going to be the onstage pianist.
We are all excited to see Stan & Ollie grow from the legends of the silver screen to living and breathing people. I’ve had the job of researching both their lives. I watched their films as a child and even now, I didn’t quite realise the near miracle that occured once they came together as a double act and the struggle they had to retain control over their careers. I’ve never been in a busier and happier rehearsal room. Oh the ducks and chickens often drop by, but what they may not fully appreciate (unless we give them biscuit crumbs), I know audiences will adore.
Signing off for now, as I’ve got to watch “The Boys” learn a new naval themed routine. I have two left feet, but luckily they can kick up their heels.
