Wendy & Peter Pan – rehearsal blog part one: The Peter Perspective (by George and Josh)
5 March 2024
The Watermill Youth Theatre Ensemble are busy in rehearsals for our upcoming production of Wendy & Peter Pan which opens on 23 March. Over 50 of our weekly youth theatre participants, aged between 11 – 25, make up the cast of this magical production which includes puppetry, stage combat, and a sprinkling of fairy dust. We caught up with Youth Ensemble members, George and Josh, who shared their experience rehearsing for the role of Peter in the show:
Embarking on the role of Peter in the production of Wendy & Peter Pan has been an extraordinary experience for both of us. As we take flight, battling Hook and exploring the wonders of Neverland, we want to share the unique experiences, challenges, and joys that we have encountered during rehearsals as Peter Pan.
We have faced a variety of challenging moments during the rehearsal process, however as there are two casts, we are able to help each other out when we are faced with challenges. Whether that is learning the Native American flute, doing a front handspring onto a stage block, stage combat, line delivery, or getting into character. Most of these have been difficult but we have helped each other through It.
It’s amazing to work with so many brilliant inspiring creatives who are so supportive and kind during rehearsals. Coming to the watermill theatre multiple times a week may sound like a lot but it’s such a joy and privilege to be part of an amazing team of young people.
We’ve learnt so many amazing and valuable skills, but both of our favourite skill we’ve developed has definitely been stage combat. As Peter, we get to participate in many dynamic fight sequences which has really pushed our coordination and trust in our cast mates. We would give you more details, but we don’t want to spoil it!
We would love for you to come and experience the wonders of Neverland and share the story of Wendy and Peter Pan with us.
