Our popular Work Experience scheme is run as part of our Careers in the Arts programme in collaboration with Corn Exchange Newbury.

We offer three types of placement at the Watermill in order to support a wide variety of people looking to learn about working in theatre and the arts.

All of our work experience placements are unpaid.  However if transport is a barrier, then financial support may be available.

Departments at the Watermill that these placements might include:

Admin  |  Casting  |  Costume  |  Development  |  Finance  |  Marketing   |  Outreach  |  Production  |  Stage Management

A man wears an old fashioned, loose fitting raincoat, wiping his hands on a rag. He also sports an overly large grey moustache, curled up at the tips towards his cheeks.

Our placements:

Secondary Education work experience

For students currently in year 10 and 11 at secondary school, or age 14 - 16, a placement up to 4 days long where you can work with a specific department, or across a few, to learn about the skills required, the day-to-day, further education & career options, and more!

We can offer this to up to 6 students a year.

Higher Education work experience

These placements are an opportunity for people at university, drama school, other higher education or age 18 - 22 to take an early career step in a professional environment. Working with one department in the organisation for an agreed period of time, we can offer this for 2 people per year.

Work experience with additional support

We are able to offer up to 3 bespoke placements per year, intended for those with additional needs whether that be physical, mental, or complications in their life. These can be for anyone age 14+ that is keen to take an early step towards a career in theatre.
