HOBSON'S CHOICE

Written by Harold Brighouse

Wed 17 May 2006 - Sat 08 Jul 2006

A comedy about families, feminine guile... and footwear

Henry Horatio Hobson, a self-made man, “British middle-class and proud of it”, tries in vain to tame his three rebellious daughters. Their lack of a mother has meant a gradual increase in their “uppishness. Little wonder he seeks solace in the Moonraker’s Arms leaving the girls to mind the shop. But being unpaid and unappreciated spurs his eldest into action, and she applies her business acumen to shape her future with extraordinary consequences.

Hobson’s Choice, Brighouse’s compelling and highly entertaining, vintage comedy about the battle of wills within a family, goes to prove that behind every great man there is a great woman…

“An absolute joy… (a) delightfully warm, funny and touching production.” The Daily Telegraph

“Good enough for the West End? You could say it’s a shoe-in.” **** The Daily Mail

“(An) extraordinarily good piece of theatre… one of the best plays I’ve seen.” Newbury Weekly News
