Watermill Elsewhere
Since 1967, The Watermill Theatre has produced hundreds of shows with many touring locally, nationally and even internationally. We have secured West End and Broadway transfers and have won numerous awards including TMA Awards, an OBIE Award and Drama Desk Awards.
We continue to create a wide variety of work here for the community around us, underpinned with an extraordinary international reputation. From a small, unique mill in the middle of the countryside, The Watermill has toured its productions to six continents across the globe, performing in places as varied as Nepal, New York, Bombay and Barbados.
Recent Tours
Most recently, we announced a West End transfer of Bleak Expectations, which opened at the Criterion where it will run until August 2023, and toured Spike to audiences across the UK.
Previous to that in 2020 The Watermill Ensemble's hit production of Macbeth and A Midsummer Nights Dream transferred to Wilton's Music Hall, London, and in 2019 Amelie embarked on a UK tour before taking up West End residence in The Other Place. In 2018 Trial by Laughter embarked on a UK tour, Twelfth Night transferred to Wilton’s Music Hall, Teddy ran at The Vaults, The Wipers Times ran at the Arts Theatre following a UK tour and Crazy For You concluded its national tour.
Community Touring
As part of our outreach work we take our shows to villages to provide access to professional theatre in rural areas.
We provide those booking the shows with information, publicity materials and support. Before touring, the show will run for a week at The Watermill. The set and technical equipment is then loaded into a truck and transported to each venue. The same actors and technical team that mounted the show within The Watermill go with it as it travels the country ensuring that each community experiences a professional show of the quality which is expected from The Watermill.
Our most recent rural tour was Mansfield Park (2023). Previous to that Camp Albion (2022), Our Church (2019) and Burke and Hare (2018) toured to rural venues in the South of England prior to a London transfer to Jermyn Street Theatre.
We also tour small scale shows to schools including our upcoming production Macbeth (2023). Previous school tour A Mini Midsummer Night's Dream (2019) toured to local secondary schools and rural venues.
