Join the brilliant Musical Director Simon Slater for a day of singing in our popular Scratch Choir!
Come together with like-minded people to rehearse songs throughout the day and perform them in the evening to an audience of family and friends in our gorgeous tithe barn.
With Jazz-inspired songs from musicals including Chicago, Thoroughly Modern Millie, and The Great Gatsby. Our Scratch Choir is open to all budding singers, with no previous experience necessary. Participants will learn a selection of songs from popular musicals with lyric sheets provided, so no need to worry about learning the words by heart.
Leading this fun and informal workshop is actor, composer and musical director Simon Slater, who has composed over 300 original scores for film, TV, theatre, and radio. These include scores for the Royal Shakespeare Company, the BBC, Channel 5, the National Theatre, and the Watermill. Simon received an Olivier Award nomination for his music in Constellations (Royal Court / Duke of York / Friedman Theatre, NY), starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Ruth Wilson. In the autumn of 2016, he was invited by the National Theatre to work on Amadeus as musical director and composer of additional music in Peter Shaffer’s iconic play about Mozart and Salieri.
As an actor he is a familiar face on British television, as well as having appeared in films and many critically-acclaimed theatre productions in London and abroad.
We are thrilled to welcome Simon back to The Watermill for our Jazz Scratch Choir.
